The Purpose of the Young Friends of Micronesia Challenge

The Young Friends of the Micronesia Challenge is a group of 16 and 17 year old students who work with the Micronesia Challenge to help conserve at least 30% of near-shore marine resources and 20% terrestrial resources all across Micronesia by the year 2020. We are the younger generation making a stand and an effort to save the resources that might not be there in the future unless we do something to conserve what is left of them now. We know that it is what we do and the choices we make today that make a difference in our tomorrow. Our first project is to gain a shark sanctuary within our waters. The shark population is decreasing rapidly with 73 million sharks being finned every year.

The reason why we are each in this group and why we do what we do is because we realize that the future is ours and that future should not be jeopardized by anyone else but us. We realized that our future is at stake and if no one wants to take a stand for it, then who will. We are taking a stand for our future and for the future of the environment we will be living in. An environment that holds a balanced ecosystem for our generation and for generations to come.

I hope you come visit us often. In our efforts and on our journey for a better future not only in growth but also in nature.
